A man led by faith, refusing to believe his rare disease (Polymyositis) was incurable,
researched alternative treatments and found a cure in Montreal, using Naturopathy and Homeopathy
More then a book about miraculous healing, it reads like a novel as the author traces his life's
journey from the hard streets of New York City, the hilarious times of raising ten children, his
school days at the old age of 45 in Bible college; the loss of his health, livelihood and his 24
year old son in a car accident. All while doing battle with his incurable autoimmune disease
Polymyositis, and taking on the American Health Care system. His perseverance and toughness helped
him win battles most man would have yielded to. The book brings hope and encouragement to anyone
fighting a hopeless illness, or a seemingly losing battle, though the author's infectious mind-set
that says, like Winston Churchill, "never, never, never give-up.

“Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition, “This is what
this book is about: Alfonso’s deep-rooted faith and his anxious
and continuous search for the best ways to fight a valiant war to triumph
over his believed-to-be incurable illness. Its reading will be of great
value for those who have to combat illness, and don’t we all?”
---- Peter Diaz Delrio, Ph.D., Professor of Languages
“Al Squitieri, demonstrates his recovery from Polymyositis
disease through the use of natural supplements, herbs,
nutrients and Homeopathy, while expressing his experience
with trails and hardships by using a good sense of humor.
Al has done a masterful job of holding your attention through
the use of baseball analogies. With introspection he gives
reason for suffering from a Biblical standpoint, his vivid
testimony serves as a reminder not to give up under trails
of the Christian experience, but to press on with genuine
perseverance.”
---- Nick Iamaio, Pastor, Reformed Presbyterian Church
Welcome Al Squitieri, Sr. to the peaks of the word crafting
art. This is no novice, but a seasoned newspaper columnist
and commentator, launching an exciting new career as a
book author. His work can be described as a book equipped
with a Spiritual Thermostat. From the harsh cold New York
streets of the author’s youth, through the uncommon
warmth of Al the man, into the scalding heat of his battle
with the American Health Care system, and a debilitating
disease. The book reads like a novel, and can only leave
the reader asking when and where will he see more work
from this author.”
---- Dr. Marvin Sprouse, Author & Publisher
“This book will have you crying and laughing almost
simultaneously. It is an interesting autobiography of a
man who leaves his native Upper East Side of New York City
before traveling too far down the “wrong path.” He
settles in a small city in Upstate New York and makes a
good mark in the community. Possessing a strong will to
succeed as husband, parent, businessman and citizen; he
overcomes many setbacks. After winning some tough battles,
he was further victorious over an “incurable disease.” Though
it has affected his physical abilities to a point, this
book is proof that it hasn’t diminished his wit,
writing skills or his strong faith in God. I know the man
over 40 years, and gave him his first weekly column. He’s
come a long way since, and makes me proud.”
---- Vincent Caravan, Newspaper Publisher.
I just finished Al’s Funny Side Up.
Guaranteed more laughs than pages!
I read and laughed thru this book, and I'll be recommending
it to others. Al did an excellent job of entertaining with
his humorous stories. And as I recall, he did an excellent
job of speaking and preaching too. When I began his second
book 'Broken Glass And All.' I expect it to be more informative
than humorous, though, I can't picture Al not including
some humor in all his writing, as he did in this second
book about his illness.”
---- Bob Tubaugh, (Al’s former church elder)

An anthology of side-splitting humor.Formally, a weekly column, so well received it was put into anthology
form, and is still running by demand in reprints. The book, a great morning read with coffee, at coffee breaks
or hectic periods during stressful days. There is a strong chance you will read it through ‘til the end in one
sitting, because you can not get enough of this belly-laugh, page turner. The stories, as quoted by the famous
author and humorist, Richard Armour, are “timely, but not timeless, and close to universal experiences, out-doing
the many tired elements around today…”
You will insist Al Squitieri, father of ten, grandfather of fourteen, had been lurking around your house for his
material. This is a book you can leave on your coffee table and not be ashamed to have your pastor read
Go ahead,read,and laugh yourself silly

"Laughed out loud from page one. This book is F U N N Y! Mr. Squitieri's ability to lift the weight of the world
off your shoulder's through his humorous stories is a gift for the reader. His real life stories are hilarious...
written for young and old alike. You'll laugh from start to finish in one sitting, because you won't be able to put it down.
The only problem with this book is it isn't long enough. More! More!"
Tim Allen Sr. I am a reader who loves a good book.
"Funny Side Up" has lived in the Leech household since my wife's dad (Wiley) became ill and eventually died of the
same disease Al Squitieri survived (Polymyositis). Al tells all in his book "Broken Glass and All." My wife's mom now lives
in a small cottage adjacent to our home, and whenever any of us get sad thinking about Wiley, we can read a chapter or two
of "Funny Side Up" and the tears of sadness are transformed into to tears of laughter. Thanks Al for helping us cope.
